Crime Stoppers calling for community action in wake of shootings (AUDIO)

By Mike Vlasveld

One person shot dead in Mechanicsville, and two other shootings within 24 hours has some Ottawa residents feeling uneasy.

President of National Capital Area Crime Stoppers Richard McMullen said the incidents involve a specific part of our population, engaged in violent activity as a lifestyle, and Crime Stoppers is working with community partners to turn people away from that lifestyle.

In a conversation with 1310 NEWS' Rick Gibbons, McMullen explains the role Crime Stoppers can play in reducing shootings in Ottawa:

National Capital Area Crime Stoppers is trending toward receiving 5,000 tips in 2018. It had just over 5,000 last year, which was a record.
