Eric Hewer homicide investigators looking for witnesses who saw altercation between e-scooter riders, Volkswagen

As the investigation into Eric Hewer’s stabbing death, Ottawa police are looking for witnesses who may have seen an altercation with three e-scooter riders and a Volkswagen happen on the night the 19-year-old died.

Hewer, 19, of Nova Scotia and a second person were stabbed in an altercation on Metcalfe Street near Albert Street Monday night.

The 19-year-old had just moved to Ottawa for a new job and was out celebrating his birthday, a GoFundMe page set up for Hewer’s family said.

Hewer died of his injuries in hospital. The second victim suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Police say the dispute happened at about 8:40 p.m.

On Wednesday, police said in another statement that they had identified all people involved in the altercation.

Anyone with information or that witnessed the disputer is asked to contact the Ottawa police’s Homicide Unit at 613-236-1222 ext. 5493.

This is the city’s 12th homicide of the year.
