Fraud and drug charges laid in Smiths Falls incident

A 28-year-old Smiths Falls man is facing drug and fraud-related charges after a police investigation in the town.

On February 11, an elderly woman told Smiths Falls police about a suspect who asked her to cash several cheques into her bank account that were later found to be stolen and fraudulent.   

Officers tracked down the suspect and made an arrest on Friday, February 26, around 11:38 a.m.

The man was found to be carrying suspected Fentanyl. 

Christian Desarmia has been charged with the following:  

  • Possession of forged document (two counts)
  • Use of forged document (two counts)
  • Fraud under $5,000 (two counts)
  • Possession of a Schedule 1 Controlled Substance

He was held in police custody for a bail hearing.
