The Gatineau Police Service says it has arrested a man in connection with the sexual assault in Aylmer.
Police issued a public warning on June 29 after multiple incidents of sexual nature in the area. Residents has reported seeing a man masturbating and indulging in exhibitionism near homes. The majority of the complaints involved an intrusion on private property.
At that time, police were also investigating a sexual assault that happened on June 26 in the same area, following a break and enter. Police say the victim in that case had managed to scare the attacker away.
The day after the public notice, the main suspect turned himself in.
The man was immediately arrested as he was wanted by arrest warrant in another case as well. He has been detained since June 30.
The SPVG is continuing its investigation into other incidents that have occurred in the area, which could be related. Other charges could be laid in those various cases.No other sexual incidents have been reported since June 30 in the Aylmer area.
In order not to interfere with the current investigation and since charges have not been officially laid, Gatineau police are not yet disclosing the identity of the individual.
