K9 helps Gatineau police track down stolen vehicle suspect in Aylmer

A 20-year-old Gatineau man is facing a number of charges police followed a stolen vehicle into Aylmer, and eventually found their suspect on the roof of a garage.
 
Just before 1 a.m., Monday, officers spotted a vehicle in Aylmer, which matched the description of a vehicle that was declared stolen earlier in another area of the city. 

The police officers intercepted the vehicle on Osgoode Street and the driver immediately got out of the vehicle and ran. 

One officer chased the driver while another arrested a passenger of the vehicle, who was very cooperative with police.
 
A security perimeter was soon set up to contain the driver and a call to the Sûreté du Québec's K9 Unit was made. A police dog unit was able to locate the suspect in a garage on Madaire Street.
 
Police tried to negotiate the surrender of the suspect, but he refused to cooperate. He tried to escape by the roof of the garage, but was quickly located and apprehended.
 
A 20-year-old Gatineau man is facing charges of:

– Break and enter
– Night intrusion
– Breach of probation
– Breach of condition
– Obstruction of justice
– Mischief 
– Possession of stolen property

He will appear before the Court of Quebec, Monday. 

The driver had been the subject of an arrest warrant that has been executed.
 
A 19-year-old woman (the passenger) was released without any charge.
