Man arrested in Buddhist statue vandalism

The Ottawa Police Service has charged a man in connection with vandalizing a statue in front of the Hilda Jayewardenaramaya Buddhist Temple on Heron Road.
The statute was damaged on May 17, in the 1400-block of Heron Road, just days after it had been restored. It needed to be fixed after someone removed its head earlier this year.
Lance Derek Crossley, 47, of Ottawa, will face one count of Mischief to Religious Property per Section 430(4.1) of the Criminal Code.
He was released with a promise to appear in court at a future date.
