By OttawaMatters Staff

A 23-year-old Ottawa man faces a slew of charges after The Ontario Provincial Police tracked a stolen vehicle south of Bancroft.

OPP officers north of Belleville were alerted Sunday night about a car northbound on Hwy. 62 that had failed to stop for police and nearly crashed into police cruisers while fleeing.

According to investigators, the car was reported stolen in Ottawa earlier the same day.

Police eventually deployed a spike belt to stop the car, but the driver kept going and was involved in a crash just south of Bancroft.

The driver took off on foot but was tracked down and arrested a short time later.

Dennis Cholet is charged with possession of property obtained by crime, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, fleeing police, and failing to remain at the scene of an accident.
