Ottawa police make arrest in Overbrook armed robbery

A 27-year-old is facing 17 criminal offences after an electronics store was robbed on Coventry Road.

Police say an employee at the store approached a man to offer assistance around 5 p.m. on Wednesday. 

The man became angry, pulling out a knife and grabbing an item before running out of the store. The employee then called 911. 

Frontline officers responded and found the suspect on Coventry Road. 

A man was arrested without incident and the stolen item was recovered.

No one was injured during the robbery.

Upon further investigation, the suspect was linked to three other robberies that have happened throughout the city recently. 

Daren McLeod, 27, of Ottawa, has been charged with:

– Attempt Robbery 
– Robbery 
– Robbery with Offensive Weapon (two counts)
– Assault with a weapon (two counts)
– Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose (four counts)
– Breach of Probation (seven counts)

He was scheduled to appear in court on Thursday.
