The Ottawa Police Service (OPS) says paint which was smeared across the Pride crosswalk on Bank Street was a regrettable incident, but not criminal or an act of hate.

Officers fully investigated the incident, which was reported to on August 27, 2021, and determined the cause was accidental.

Surveillance video showed that paint began to spill out of the bed of a pick-up truck before the vehicle went through the crosswalk.

Further damage then occurred when other vehicles drove through the paint and into the crosswalk.
