An 18-year-old is facing one count of first degree murder following the death of Mehdi El-Hajj Hassan in a south Ottawa neighbourhood.

Ottawa police officers responded to a shooting in the Hunt Club Road and Lorry Greenburg Drive area around 3 a.m. on January 16, 2021.

Investigators are not releasing any details about the identity of the accused due to the Youth Criminal Justice Act, as the accused was a young person at the time of the offence.

The teen was also charged on Thursday, August 26, with a number of firearms offences for an unrelated file.

Investigators believe the accused did not act alone in the murder of El-Hajj Hassan and are asking for the public's help in identifying any other suspects. Police are also looking for information regarding a light-coloured, four-door sedan, identified as a vehicle of interest.

The investigation continues and anyone with information is asked to contact the Ottawa Police Service Homicide Unit at 613-236-1222 ext. 5493.
