By CityNews Ottawa

The Ottawa Police Service (OPS) is investigating two incidents of unprovoked assault against women that took place earlier this month.

The first incident took place on Sept. 13 at roughly 6 p.m. in the area of Cahill Drive and McCarthy Road. Two women were walking southbound on Cahill Drive when they were approached from behind by a man who struck a 58-year-old woman in the head. She suffered minor injuries.

The second incident took place on Sept. 16 at around 8 p.m. in the area of Uplands Drive and Bennett Street. A 29-year-old woman was walking on the sidewalk when a man came towards her in a grassy area and struck her, resulting in minor injuries.

Investigators believe the same person is responsible for both assaults, and is described as a male, between the ages of 20 and 30, 5'7″ to 5'9″, skinny build, long black curly hair past the shoulders that was worn in a ponytail. At the time of the incidents, the suspect was wearing a dark baseball hat, white t-shirt, dark shorts and white running shoes.

Anyone with information is asked to call the OPS East Criminal Investigation Unit at 613-236-1222, extension 3566.
