Police uncover more than $18K worth of drugs in Vars

OPP officers found a driver to be under the influence of drugs, which led to a vehicle search.

A 33-year-old Cornwall woman is facing a number of drug-related offences after Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers discovered $18,500 worth of drugs in a vehicle.

Police responded to an ambulance assistance call at a busines on Burton Road in Vars, around 5:45 a.m., on February 26.

The officers arrived to find a motorist impaired by drugs. They then searched the driver's vehicle to find suspected crack cocaine, cocaine, crystal methamphetamine, methamphetamine pills, psilocybin (mushrooms), oxycodone pills, ecstacy and cannabis. Nearly $6,800 in Canadian currency was also seized.

Tawnya Brunette was arrested and charged with:

  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking - Cocaine CDSA 5(2);
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking - Methamphetamine CDSA 5(2);
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking - Other Drugs CDSA 5(2);
  • Possession of a Schedule III substance for the purpose of Trafficking CDSA 5(2);
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance - Other Drugs CDSA 4(1);
  • Possession Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000 CC 355(a);
  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs CC 320.14(1)(a) and
  • Failure or refusal to comply with demand CC 320.15(1)

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in L'Orignal at a later date.
