Police warning about aggressive salespeople going door-to-door in Smiths Falls

By Mike Vlasveld

Smiths Falls police are warning residents about aggressive door-to-door salespeople, trying to sell hot water tanks.

The police service says it's received complaints about door-to-door salespeople using high-pressure techniques recently, where the resident is convinced they need to sign a contract on the spot.

The Town of Smiths Falls has a bylaw about door-to-door sales, which explains that any solicitation must obtain a peddler's license and be vetted for approval prior to attending any residence.

Police are asking residents not to fall for the sales pitches, and call the police's non-emergency number (613) 283-0357 ext. 0 to report the individual(s).

These types of high-pressure sales are prohibited in Ontario. For more information from the province, click here.
