PSW accused of sexually assaulting vulnerable patient at Ottawa Hospital Civic Campus

The Ottawa Police Service Sexual Assault and Child Abuse (SACA) Unit is charging a man following an investigation into a sexual assault at The Ottawa Hospital Civic Campus.

Officers say the accused was working as a Personal Support Worker (PSW) on an overnight shift, between April 1 and April 2, when a vulnerable woman who was receiving care was sexually assaulted. 

Erwin Blanco, 44, of Ottawa, has been charged with one count of sexual assault. 

Blanco worked as a PSW at the hospital's Civic, General and Riverside Campuses between September 2020 and April 2021. SACA investigators believe there could be other victims. 

The accused is known to use the alias of Slater Mercado on social media. 

He is scheduled to appear in court on Friday.
