Renfrew scammers pretending to be hydro workers

By Mike Vlasveld

The Renfrew OPP Detachment is making residents in the town aware of scammers, calling homes pretending to represent Renfrew Hydro.

Officers have received several calls regarding a potential phone scam recently.

Residents are reporting receiving calls from different numbers, but each time the caller advises that they are with Renfrew Hydro and would like to set up a home visit to discuss installing a new furnace.

Police are warning against providing any type of personal or credit card information to anyone soliciting this service via phone, email or in person.

Renfrew Hydro was contacted by the OPP and confirm they are not installing new furnaces in Renfrew, and are not associated with whoever is making these calls.

Residents are encouraged to report any sort of suspicious activity to their local police detachment and are reminded to only give information out to trusted companies which they have called, themselves.
