Resident complaints lead to fentanyl bust in Vanier neighbourhood

By Mike Vlasveld

Four men are facing charges in connection with a fentanyl bust in Vanier.

Complaints from the community about possible drug activity on Lafontaine Avenue near Montreal Road lead the Ottawa Police Service to execute a search warrant at an apartment in the neighbourhood.

Tactical, frontline officers and street crime investigators arrested four men and two women at the scene.

The names are not being released as this investigation is ongoing.

Four men, aged 56, 55 and 50 of Ottawa and a 21-year-old from Limoges, were charged with possession of a schedule substance, believed to be fentanyl. The drugs seized still need to be analyzed by Health Canada.

All of the accused were all released with a promise to appear in court at a later date.

Two women, 22 and 48, were released with no charges.

None of the arrested were tenants of the apartment building.

While at the location, numerous residents approached officers and thanked them for dealing with the problem address. One resident left a thank-you card on a detective's vehicle.
