UPDATE: An earlier version of the story said Donald Hickey was a retired officer. SIU has since updated its information to say Hickey is currently an OPP member.

Ontario's Special Investigations Unit has charged an OPP police officer with sexual assault in relation to an incident that allegedly happened in Ottawa — this just days after an Ottawa police officer with the Ottawa Police Service was also charged with sexual assault.

On Friday, Ontario’s police watchdog confirmed that Donald Hickey was charged with one count of sexual assault after it received a complaint on May 18.

SIU says the complaint of sexual assault allegedly happened between 1995 and 1998 in a part of Ottawa that is now formerly known as Rideau Township.

Hickey is required to appear at an Ottawa courtroom on October 27.

Since the matter is before the courts, SIU says it will not provide further comment on the investigation.

On Wednesday, SIU confirmed that it had also charged Cst. Sundeep Singh in relation to an alleged February sexual assault.

The two crimes are not related.
