SIU clears Ottawa police officer in summer incident that involved death of man in city’s west end

By Dani-Elle Dubé

Ontario’s police watchdog has cleared an Ottawa police officer in the death of a man that happened over the summer in the city’s west end.

According to the Special Investigations Unit (SIU), on July 15, officers went to the man’s home on Woodroffe Avenue as he had a warrant out for his arrest.

From inside the home the man indicated he would accompany the officer, but would need some time to get dressed first.

Several minutes later, the man did not emerge. Police then located the man and performed CPR until paramedics arrived.

Paramedics then took the man to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Following the investigation, the SIU director found no reasonable grounds to charge the officer.

The file has been closed.
