SIU clears Ottawa police officers in incident where pursuit lead to woman’s serious injuries

By Dani-Elle Dubé

Ontario's Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has found no reasonable grounds that two Ottawa police officers committed a criminal offence in connection with the serious injuries suffered by a 28-year-old woman in a vehicle collision.

According to the SIU, on May 22, the woman’s vehicle was struck at Cyrville Road and Ogilvie Road by a driver who had earlier been under pursuit by officers in two police vehicles.

SIU Director Joseph Martino concluded that the police pursuit had ended well before the driver entered the intersection on a red light and caused a collision.

Therefore, there is no basis for proceeding with criminal charges in this case and the file has been closed.
