Stunt drivers nabbed on area highways, one going 186 km/hr

One driver failed to stop for police, and was found to be under the influence of alcohol.

Seven people are facing stunt driving charges after Stormont Dundas & Glengarry OPP officers conducted traffic enforcement on local highways over the last six days.

The accused drivers include six men and one woman, ranging in age from 21 to 53.

All seven vehicles were spotted travelling at least 50 km/hr over the posted speed limit.

In all cases, the vehicles were impounded and driver's permits were seized for seven days.

Six of the traffic stops were routine:

- June 27, 2018 - 4:12 p.m. (South Stormont); vehicle stopped travelling 151 km/hr (100 km/hr zone)(Hwy 401). Male driver, 37, from Montreal was charged with Stunt Driving (Highway Traffic Act).
- June 29, 2018 - 12:02 a.m. (North Dundas); vehicle stopped travelling 155 km/hr (80 km/hr zone)(County Road 31). Male driver, 20, from Fort Bay, Ontario was charged with Stunt Driving (Highway Traffic Act).
- July 1, 2018 - 7:30 a.m. (South Stormont); vehicle stopped travelling 159 km/hr (100 km/hr zone)(Hwy 401). Male driver, 33, from Toronto was charged with Stunt Driving (Highway Traffic Act).
- July 1, 2018 - 11:13 a.m. (South Stormont); vehicle stopped travelling 155 km/hr (100 km/hr zone)(Hwy 401). Male driver, 28, from Lachine, Quebec was charged with Stunt Driving (Highway Traffic Act).             
- July 2, 2018 - 8:32 a.m. (South Dundas); vehicle stopped travelling 168 km/hr (100 km/hr zone)(Hwy 401). Male driver, 53, from China was charged with Stunt Driving (Highway Traffic Act).           
- July 3, 2018 - 12:23 a.m. (South Dundas); vehicle stopped travelling 156 km/hr (100 km/hr zone)(Hwy 401). Female driver, 21, from South Stormont was charged with Stunt Driving (Highway Traffic Act).

On June 28, at 10:28 p.m., police attempted stop a vehicle on Hwy 401 in South Glengarry Township, but the car continued on until it was successfully intercepted by officers on County Road 2. 

OPP said the driver was found to be under the influence of alcohol.

Robert Longchamps, 24, of Cornwall was arrested and is charged with:

- Drive a Motor Vehicle while Impaired 
- Drive a Motor Vehicle with over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol in blood
- Dangerous operation of motor vehicle
- Flight while pursued by peace officers
- Stunt Driving - 186 km/hr (100 km/hr zone)(Highway Traffic Act)

He was released and scheduled to appear in Cornwall court on July 17, 2018.
