The Ottawa Police Service is charging a third man after a series of extortion incidents that started back in the mid-summer.

Since early August of this year, investigators say men have been lured to locations in Ottawa's west end with the promise that they would be meeting a woman. When the victims show up, however, they are met by suspects who intimidate and threaten them to provide money or be exposed publicly on the pretext that they were communicating with an underage girl.

Two men, ages 23 and 24, were charged on October 14, and police say a third was arrested and charged on Tuesday, October 19.

Guled Jinje, 24, of Ottawa has been charged with:

  • Robbery, Sec. 343, Criminal Code
  • Kidnapping, Sec. 279 Criminal code
  • Extortion, Sec. 346 Criminal Code
  • Harassment by repeated communication with person, Sec. 264 Criminal Code

He is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.

Investigators believe that there may be more victims in this case and are asking them to contact police.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Ottawa Police Robbery Unit at 613-236-1222, ext. 5116.
