Three young people arrested for stealing TV from tornado-affected home

By Mike Vlasveld

Gatineau police officers arrested three young people during patrols of the tornado affected area on Daniel Johnson Street.

The suspects were spotted sneaking between two apartment buildings around 8:15 p.m. Tuesday, and one officer noticed that one of them was carrying a flat-screen TV.

Police quickly stopped them for questioning.

The on-site investigation allowed officers to determine that the television was from a Tassé Street apartment that had been damaged by Friday's storm.

Considering that the owner of the property did not want charges to be laid in the file, the three youths (two boys aged 14 and 10, and a 12-year-old girl) received a verbal warning and were turned over to an adult.

The TV was returned to the owner as a result of the intervention.

Since September 21, the SPVG has received four complaints of theft or break and enters.

Gatineau police say it has several officers deployed in the tornado-affected area, in addition to regular staff, to ensure the smooth running of operations and to monitor the scene.

Although access to the site is now available to the public, police are stationed at various strategic locations in the area to ensure some control.

The SPVG, invites anyone to report suspicious persons or situations in this area by calling 819-246-0222.
