A 21-year-old woman is facing a criminal charge after a set of wheels came off a tractor trailer on Hwy 401 in Leeds.

Ontario Provincial Police officers responded to the incident Wednesday, around 9:30 p.m.

Officials said an eastbound truck lost its rear dual set of wheels in Leeds and the Thousand Islands Township, and was stopped in front of Yonge Township.

A woman from Severn Township, near Orillia, was charged under the Highway Traffic Act for the wheel separation offence. Further charges are pending against the owner of the trailer. The driver's unsafe trailer was towed.

The two missing wheels were found by officers, behind where the truck was stopped.

The police investigation continues alongside members of the Ministry of Transportation.
