Two crashes close Highway 401 near Odessa

Both happened earlier Friday morning, but crews remain on scene to clean the debris and investigate.

Two crashes on Highway 401 near Odessa closed sections of the highway — one involving a tractor trailer, and the other two transport trucks.

Lennox and Addington OPP and other emergency crews were called to a report of a tractor trailer on fire on the north shoulder of the highway westbound near the Odessa exit at about 2 a.m. Friday.

The transport was hauling vehicles and was fully engulfed in flames.

The road was closed to allow firefighters to extinguish the blaze.

No one was injured in this incident.

One westbound lane has since reopened to traffic as of 4:30 p.m.

Then, just after 6 a.m., OPP and other emergency crews responded to a motor vehicle collision on 401 westbound, east of  County Road 6 in Loyalist Township.

A westbound transport truck collided with the rear of another that was stopped in a traffic queue.

The driver of the moving tractor trailer sustained serious injuries and was transported to hospital by paramedics.

The roadway was reopened just before 4 p.m.

Traffic is reduced to one lane until debris is cleaned up.

The investigation remains ongoing.
