Two men are in hospital after they were shot in the city’s west end neighbourhood of Mechanicsville.

Emergency crews responded to the call at 131 Parkdale Ave., near Burnside Avenue, at about 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 20.

Ottawa paramedics tell CityNews Ottawa that two men — a 54-year-old and a 24-year-old — sustained gunshot wounds.

Both men were transported to the Ottawa Hospital’s trauma centre in critical condition.

According to City Councillor Jeff Leiper, who has been providing updates via his Twitter account, the two victims suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

No other details were given on the victim’s identities or conditions.

Leiper adds that the area of where the shooting happened is being canvassed by officers and forensics as they process the scene.

The case is now in the hands of the Ottawa Police Service's Guns and Gangs Unit.

Police had closed Parkdale Avenue between Emmerson and Lyndale Avenues to conduct their investigation.
