Two people arrested following traffic stop in Smiths Falls

OPP have arrested two people following a traffic stop in Montague Township that led to several charges.

OPP said two officers conducted a traffic stop on Van Exam Drive in the earlier hours of Thursday, December 2 when they observed a vehicle parked on the street.

After speaking with the driver and passenger, police say a brief physical altercation took place and the driver was taken into custody.

The passenger fled the scene on foot and was located later.

As a result, Gilles Thibeault, 53, of Smiths Falls was charged with the following:

• Two counts of resisting a peace officer
• Two counts of assaulting  peace officer
• Operation while impaired — alcohol and drugs
• Failure or refusal to comply with demand
• Possession of a schedule I substance

Cassandra Meilleur, 29, of Smiths Falls was also charged with the following:

• Obstructing a peace officer
• Possession of a schedule I substance
