UPDATE: Deceased in west Ottawa shooting identified as 16-year-old

A 16-year-old is being identified as the person who died in a shooting in a neighbourhood just off Iris Street, between Greenbank Road and Woodroffe Avenue, in Ottawa.

The Ottawa Police Service (OPS) says John Ndayishimiye was found dead at a home on Elmira Drive around 3:16 a.m. on Monday, December 6.

A second 16-year-old was also found at scene with non-life threatening injuries. He was treated by Ottawa Paramedic Service and taken to a local hospital.

The area was canvassed by responding officers and the investigation continues. 

There is no suspect in custody at this time.

Investigators believe the shooting was targeted and not a random act. There are no public safety concerns.
