A 27-year-old is facing charges, including first degree murder, after an investigation into a death at the Algonquins of Pikwakanagan First Nation.
Officers responded to a 911 call at a home on a road north of Kokomis Inamo, shortly before 3 a.m. on July 10 and found a 67-year-old man dead, as well as a second man with non-life threatening injuries.
The injured man was taken to hospital by the Renfrew County Ambulance.
Zachary Marquardt, 27, of Bonnechere Valley Township, has been arrested and charged with:
- First degree murder - CC section 235(1)
- Fail to comply with a Probation Order - CC section 733.1(1)
The accused appeared in court via video link Sunday morning and was remanded into custody with his next appearance scheduled for July 19, at the Ontario Court of Justice in Killaloe.
Police say the identity of the deceased person is not being released at this time.
The investigation is ongoing under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) and in partnership with the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Services.
