Renfrew County and district expecting its COVID-19 restrictions to be tightened

By Mike Vlasveld

A move from yellow-protect to the orange-restrict zone of Ontario's COVID-19 response framework is a near guarantee for Renfrew County and district, according to the area's acting medical officer of health.

“I'm concerned right now,” explains Dr. Robert Cushman. “Our numbers are, I wouldn't even say they're inching up, they're almost surging up, and we've now had three variants in Renfrew County and district since late last week.”

It's not all bad news though, says Dr. Cushman, as 75 per cent of the area's above the age of 80 have been vaccinated — a rate which outpaces the province.

The doctor adds that, starting Monday, March 29, anyone over the age of 75 can start booking appointments for a COVID-19 vaccine in Renfrew County and district.
