Ottawa police lay animal cruelty charge in stomping death of baby goose

An investigation has concluded after the death of a gosling in Kanata.

Around 9:20 a.m. on Thursday, May 22, the Ottawa Police Service (OPS) responded to an animal cruelty call in the 400 block of Hazeldean Road.

According to police, it appeared as though Canada Geese had laid eggs in the area, and on Wednesday, May 22, a suspect stomped on one of the hatched babies.

Police said on Friday morning they have now charged at 68-year-old man with animal cruelty.

“The man has been charged with causing unnecessary pain and suffering to an animal,” the press release from officials reads.

He is set to appear in court at a later date.

Officers conducted the investigation with Safe Wings Ottawa, a local club that works to reduce bird mortality.

The club has also safely relocated both parents and the two surviving babies, due to concerns about their safety at their original location.
