Fire destroys New Rideau Restaurant north of Kemptville

A restaurant and wedding venue north of Kemptville is no more, after a fire destroyed the building Tuesday night.
Ottawa Fire Services (OFS) was called to the New Rideau Restaurant on Merlyn Wilson Road in Beckett’s Landing, after receiving reports of smoke and flames coming from the building just before 10:45 p.m.
Firefighters arrived on the scene just before 11 p.m. and confirmed flames had extended through the roof of the building. They say the fire was threatening to spread to several large propane tanks nearby.
Crews confirmed the building was empty at the time.
Firefighters battled the blaze using an aerial ladder vehicle to spray large amounts of water to cool the structure, with large portable water tankers to assist.

The fire was declared under control just after 1 a.m., Tuesday, after crews were able to ensure all remaining hotspots were extinguished.
North Grenville Fire Service also assisted in the efforts.
An OFS investigator has been called in to determine the cause of the fire.
