Firefighters respond to barn fire on Birchgrove Road in city’s east end

No animals or humans were injured as Ottawa firefighters responded to a barn that was on fire in the rural part of the city’s east end.

Ottawa Fire Services (OFS) said fire crews were on the scene at 5:30 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 2. at the 4700 block of Birchgrove Road in Cumberland where a barn was fully engulfed in flames.

The barn was used to store dry hay for cattle and tractors.

There were no animals inside the barn but there a second barn in closeby with animals inside. There was a large diesel tank at the front of the barn on fire that created a hazard for crews.

It took seven hours to have everything under control.
