B.C. Place’s dome comes down Tuesday

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – If you were hoping to get a piece of B.C. Place’s dome roof after its deflation on Tuesday, Pavco’s Howard Crosley says you’re out of luck.

Crosley says the roof will take on a new life instead of being auctioned off. “The fabric is committed to a company that is going to make sure that it is all recycled. They have done this with other domes in the world, and in fact it will be used for things like shelters and even handbags. It will all be reused.”

Those who wanted a celebration when the Vancouver landmark was deflated might be disappointed. “Due to safety concerns, there won’t be a big ceremony inside or anything like that. There will be a little bit of a ceremony with the pushing of a button to turn off the fans.”

It’s expected it will take about half an hour for the roof to deflate completely.
