O’Brien attacks Watson a week before election

Ottawa voters head to the polls in exactly a week, and the incumbent mayor has been talking tough about his main rival.

Larry O’Brien took time out from a campaign stop sunday to attack Jim Watson on his record as a cabinet minister.

O’Brien told CTV he had to fight the former municipal affairs minister to get funding for Ottawa’s transit plan.

“I tried very hard to get the $600-million worth of the provincial money out of his office and he stood back steadfast and said ‘no,'” O’Brien said.

An aide for Jim Watson said O’Brien’s statement is not true.

The pair will meet in a live televised debate tonight.
