Yemeni cargo banned from Canada

The Stephen Harper government has banned all air cargo from Yemen.
The news coming from Transport Minister Chuck Strahl, who told reporters outside the House of Commons today that the move is precautionary and not based on any specific threat to Canada.
“I want Canadians to be assured that they will be safe. We’re not going to accept cargo from Yemen. We’re examining the entire process in partner with our allies from around the world,” Strahl said.
Canada’s decision comes as similar action is taken by other countries following the discovery of an elaborate mail-bomb plot that originated in Yemen.
Britain is banning the import of larger printer cartridges by air and has announced broader measures to halt air cargo from Somalia and Yemen because of a possible link between terrorists in the two countries.
The Yemeni division of Al-Qaida has been linked to the bomb plot because of the use of the powerful explosive PETN.
