OTTAWA, ON — A family in southern Ottawa is staying in their house, thanks in part to the quick actions of firefighters.
Around 5:15 PM Saturday, firefighters were sent to a residence on Proven Line Road near North Gower, where smoke was pouring out of a mantle. Crews quickly dismantled the fireplace and discovered fire in the floor beneath the fireplace. They successfully extinguished the flames before they spread along the buildings structure.
The cause of the blaze is not yet known. Total damage in the two-story home is estimated to be $10,000.
No one was hurt, and the family was able to return to their home later Saturday night.
