TORONTO, Ont. – Ontario Finance Minister Dwight Duncan hints there will be some relief for consumers hit hard by soaring electricity bills in Thursday’s fall economic update.
The Liberal government has been under increasing fire for rising hydro bills, a problem that got worse when the province implemented the HST in July, adding another eight per cent to electricity costs.
Duncan suggests there will be some sort of help for hard hit hydro customers in the economic update.
He said the update will speak to a range of issues, including hydro rates.
The Progressive Conservatives accuse the Liberal government of making up their energy policies on the fly.
The New Democrats, meanwhile, said the easiest and quickest way to give people a break on electricity costs is to remove the HST from hydro bills.
