Charest Government survives

It was a nail-biter, but Quebec Premier Jean Charest’s government has survived a confidence vote by a margin of 61 to 57.

It’s been rocked by scandal, but the Liberal majority rallied behind its leader to defeat a non-confidence motion and gave Charest a standing ovation.

The opposition wants Charest to resign because he has refused to call a public inquiry into the many corruption scandals rocking the province.
