Ottawa family split and united by hockey

Half of Ottawa’s Gudbranson family is in Winnipeg for the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge while the other half is at the World Junior Hockey Championships in Buffalo.

Donna Gudbranson is in Buffalo with her daughter, Chantal, to watch her son Erik play on the biggest stage of his life. Meanwhile, her husband, Wayne, and son, Dennis, are in Winnipeg to watch younger brother Alex play in the gold medal game of the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge Tuesday against the U.S.

Erik and the rest of Team Canada face off against Russia Wednesday in the gold medal game of the World Juniors. Donna said it’s a dream come true for him after missing it last year due to illness.

After being apart for the holidays, the Gudbranson family will reunite in Buffalo with the hope of a gold medal to bring home.
