Ottawa City Budget

Ottawa residents will pay more under the draft budgets tabled today by the city and police service.
Mayor Jim Watson tells city council homeowners will see a property tax hike of 2.45 per cent this year if the budget is approved.
But he wants – 44 (m) million dollars worth of spending cuts in employee efficiencies and department budget cuts.
And he says there’ll be no free lunch anymore for councillors during committee meetings.
The belt-tightening is beginning with Watson himself, who will cut his office budget by 10 per cent or about 80-thousand dollars.
Meantime, police are proposing a net operating budget of about 237 (m) million dollars, and a capital budget of almost 15 (m) million dollars.
