Giffords moved to rehab facility

With her condition improving, U.S. Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords was moved to a rehabilitation facility Wednesday morning.

The move was delayed three days because of a slight buildup of spinal fluid in Giffords’ brain.  But doctors upgraded her condition to good from serious Tuesday night, setting the wheels in motion for the transfer.

Police officers with dogs checked the ambulance before the move.

Giffords was shot in the head January 8 while talking with constituents outside a grocery store in Tuscon.  The suspect in the shooting, 22-year-old Jared Loughner, pleaded not guilty on Monday to federal charges of trying to assassinate the congresswoman and two aides.  He will also face federal murder charges at a later date.
