Tobin makes court appearance

The son of former Newfoundland premier and federal cabinet minister Brian Tobin made his first court appearance since being charged in connection with the Christmas Eve death of his best friend.

Jack Tobin appeared briefly in an Ottawa court to have his bail conditions amended before the matter was adjourned for two weeks.

He left court with his parents by his side.

Tobin faces three charges in connection with and incident that left his longtime friend Alex Zolpis dead, including impaired driving causing death.

Tobin was arrested after police were called to a parking garage in the market following reports a man was pinned under a truck.

Tobin’s lawyer says a condition that he must appear in court for all legal matters has been lifted because of the intense media interest in the case.
