Winter Storm Warning for Ottawa halts school buses, cancels flights

The winter storm that has pummelled much of the the United States and touched down in southern Ontario overnight has started to cause havoc in Ottawa, cancelling many flights and school buses for the area.
1310News meteorologist Jill Taylor said the biggest problem for Ottawa is the wind. Taylor said the dry snow won’t stick very well so the wind gusts of up to 50 kilometres will create dangerous visibility situations on the roads.
The city of Ottawa had it’s salt trucks out overnight in to get ahead of the weather and said the full fleet of 420 plows and graders are out in order to keep the streets cleared.
School bus cancellations include,
- The Ottawa-Carleton District School Board
- The Ottawa Catholic School Board
- The Upper Canada District School Board
- And the Ottawa Carleton District School Board has Cancelled all curriculum services workshops as well.
The Ottawa airport has cancelled many departures throughout the day, including flights to Toronto, Boston, New York and Boston. For a full list of cancelled flights visit the Ottawa Airport website here.
