Task force discovers billions of unclaimed social security

The federal government was trying to dole out billions in benefits to eligible Canadians, but it turned out many were not collecting their cash.

A federal task force on financial literacy uncovered more than 160 thousand eligible seniors who were not receiving old age security worth almost one billion dollars.

The report suggested that poverty and language presented barriers to some Canadians when it came to applying for the benefits.

The task force recommended that the Government simplify the forms to make sure those who were eligible were able to collect what was rightfully theirs.
