Some of Ottawa’s most creative tech minds got their props at city hall Tuesday night in an awards ceremony in the apps-4-Ottawa contest.
32 year old Ekwa Jacob Duala-Ekoko “Ottawa guide” app won three awards including best overall application. The doctoral student in software engineering at McGill designed a real-time digital info display about your current location on objects such as Ottawa landmarks or attractions using a smart phone’s camera. Point your camera, learn about the landmark – touch the screen, and you’re directed to a page about that landmark.
The city’s chief information officer said he was impressed with the quality and quantity of entries, which far exceeded their expectations, and the imagination and creativity behind them.
