Quebec legislates striking crown attorneys back to work

Quebec has passed legislation ordering its striking Crown prosecutors and other government lawyers back to work.
A two-week strike has crippled the provincial justice system with only a skeleton staff of prosecutors and lawyers providing essential services.
The provincial legislature passed the special law with a 61-50 vote this morning.
There were mass resignations on Monday from the senior ranks of Quebec’s Crown prosecutors in the increasingly nasty labour dispute although the government said they have to stay in their current jobs.
The government says it’s received resignations from four senior Crowns and 24 deputies, which would leave offices leaderless.
The government sought to impose a settlement which would give provincial government lawyers an average six-per-cent raise during the next five years.
