Watson says OC Transpo is not sustainable

Mayor Jim Watson says if city hall doesn’t tackle spending and operational issues, OC Transpo will become “dysfunctional.”

Watson told business leaders that OC Transpo is not sustainable as it currently stands.  Watson says if transpo’s budget isn’t scrutinized, it alone could add 2%  to property tax bills.

The transit commission approved Watson’s 2011 draft transpo budget on Thursday.  The budget calls for a 2.5 percent fare hike and a proposal to buy 75 new double decker buses at a cost of $81.8 million.
