Standoff in small Quebec town ends

An armed standoff that stretched out for nearly 12 hours in a small Quebec town has ended.

The 44-year-old man who barricaded himself inside a home in Notre-Dame-du-Laus, surrendered to police. Police spokesperson Ann Mathieu tells 1310news, that gunshots were heard at the home at around 2:30 a.m. Monday morning.

A woman being held hostage, escaped from the home around 8:00 a.m.  It’s not known how the man and woman know each other. About a dozen homes around the standoff scene were evacuated as a precaution. Notre-Dame-du-Laus is about an hour and a half north of Ottawa.
