OC Transpo unveils big plans for route changes

OC Transpo riders may have to re-learn the Capital’s bus network, if a series of route changes go ahead.

Ottawa’s transit commission has gotten its first look at a slew of proposed changes to trim $22 million from the transit budget.

The head of OC Transpo calls it the most ambitious change in transit design since amalgamation.

“This is…about a journey to make a better system,” said Alain Mercier, OC Transpo president.  “(A system) which can grow for the vast majority of residents, at the most affordable price.”

The changes affect every area of the city — south, west, and even the far east in Cumberland.

The changes proposed include shorter routes, reduced hours of service and consolidating multiple bus routes into one.

Public consultations will be held on the proposed changes before a final report is handed down April 20.

Details on specific routes affected as well as details on five planned public open houses about the changes can be found on OC Transpo’s website.
