City institutes ban on open fires, permits required

Despite the soggy start to the day, if an outside burn is in your plans, get a permit first.
A ban on open fires has been ordered by the city just two days after a grass fire in the south-end destroyed 20 acres of grass land.
The city also reminds smokers that at this time of year throwing your butt out the window of your car is especially hazardous to grassland.
Even with a permit you still have to call the city to get permission to start the burn.
